oUR STORY
Nordic Vans is located in Bellingham, Washington, a town celebrated for its world-class mountain biking and legendary snowfall at Mt. Baker. We specialize in converting Mercedes Sprinters, Ford Transits, Dodge Promasters, and even VW buses into fully-equipped campers. Our mission is simple: to create vans that help people connect with nature and pursue their passions.
Our story began, like many great adventures, with an old VW bus. This particular bus held a special place in our hearts, as it had been a mobile basecamp for Gordon Hempton, the renowned natural sound ecologist known as "The Soundtracker"—who also happens to be my father-in-law. My journey with the bus started on a New Year's Day when he gifted it to us, saying it had been “collecting dust and could use a little love.” We happily accepted, and I set to work restoring and transforming the bus into a roadworthy vessel—without him even knowing. The moment I got to unveil it to him was worth my long labors and it formed the roots of what would become Nordic Vans. The interior of the bus is a tribute to the majestic sailing ships of old with lots of teak, brass and patina. If you’re looking to craft a van of your own to sail the open roads, reach out, we’d love to help.
