oUR STORY

Nordic Vans is based in Bellingham, Washington a town known for its epic mountain biking and legendary Mt. Baker snowfall. We specialize in converting Mercedes Sprinters, Ford Transits, Dodge Promasters and even VW buses into campers. Our mission is to build vans that get people out in nature to pursue their passions. Our journey began like so many great stories, with an old VW bus. This particular bus was special because of its family heritage, having been used for 30 years as a mobile basecamp for natural sound ecologist, Gordon Hempton, the Soundtracker. The Soundtracker happens to be my father in law and my chapter with the bus began on a new years day when he offered it to us. He said it was just collecting dust these days and could use some love. We excitedly accepted his offer and I ended up restoring and building the bus into a roadtrip worthy vessel without him even knowing it. The joy of being able to unveil it to him was well worth my labors. The bus design is an ode to the sailing ships of old and for those of us who long to sail forbidden seas.
